Contabo is a very interesting solution when the need is limited to a VPS capable of running Metatrader on a real account.

Indeed, the availability, the power of the platforms and the choice of geographical areas perfectly meet the needs of this software to trade in good conditions.

However, there are a few points that may hinder some users:

• Good support, but only by email and during office hours.
• No payment in cryptocurrencies.

Choice of server (computing power)

The estimates below are provided as a guide.

VPS S: potentially a bit light to run Metatrader in good conditions, but sufficient for tests if Metatrader behavior is not critical.

VPS M: A good compromise to run a single instance of Metratrader in good conditions.

VPS L: A robust server that will allow you to run 2 to 4 instances of Metatrader in good conditions.

VPS XL: For specific needs. Except in special cases, taking several small servers is potentially more interesting.

Note that you can dynamically switch from one formula to another, they will then dynamically modify the resource allocations of your VPS.

Warning: a VPS is a virtual machine that shares its resources with other machines. During load peaks, the rented resources will be made available, but it may take a few seconds for the system to react to the request. If you want to erase these few seconds of latency, you have to switch to dedicated solutions where the resources are exclusively allocated to you: a VDS or a dedicated server, but this is rarely necessary, and much more expensive.

Choice of subscription duration

Logically, the longer the duration, the better the discount.

However, this discount only applies to the activation fees: about 6€, so it is not very interesting if you do not want to commit yourself for too long.

NB: It is then possible to renew your subscription as long as necessary without any activation fees.

Choice of location

The choice of the region is to be made by taking into account 2 parameters:

1. The cost of the location (electricity and space costs)
2. The distance to your broker's servers (the greater the distance, the higher the latency)

NB: Broker servers are generally located near stock exchanges (for the same latency concerns), and these stock exchanges are located in the major financial metropolises: New York, London, Hong Kong etc... Normally these locations are interconnected with very reliable and fast connections, so there is little chance of having bad surprises, except by taking a location lost at the other end of the world.

Choice of the type of storage space

For Metatrader, storage requirements are low: a few dozen GigaByte (GB) will do.

The difference between SSDs and NVMe is mainly the file access speed (NVMe being the most powerful), but this is not a critical parameter for Metatrader.

Therefore, it is recommended to choose 100 GB NVMe, because it is not necessary to have more than 100 GB of storage space, and it is the most efficient technology.

Choice of operating system

To use Metatrader it is strongly recommended to install Windows (otherwise there will be many problems and loss of performance)

The choice of the Windows version does not matter, but it will certainly be more comfortable with the recommended (because the most recent) version: Windows Server 2022.

Choice of the VPS password

The login is imposed : Administrator

The password is free, be careful not to choose it too simple to avoid being hacked.

NB1: These identifiers will be the ones to provide to connect to your VPS;

NB2 : In case of loss of the mdp, you will have to reinstall your server with a new mdp (free of charge, but loss of time and of your data).

Choice of network parameters

Private Networking: Security option to use a VPN (secure tunnel between your computer and the VPS). In our opinion it is not necessary, but each one to judge according to the stakes.

Bandwidth: Fixed, but don't worry, with these speeds you can download your favorite series in Ultra HD in no time.

IPV4: Unless there is a specific need, one address is sufficient.

Choice of Addons

Unless you have a specific need, you don't need the addons.

Check the desired quantity and click on NEXT.

Customer data

Choose if you are already registered with Contabo.

Choose whether you are an individual or a company.

Enter your personal data.

Proofreading

Browse your order one last time, check it, then proceed to payment (CB or Paypal).

You will receive your login details for the Contabo site shortly (within the day).

In the same email you will receive the VPS connection information:

• the IP address
• the login : user name
• attention the password is not the one chosen in section 5. Login & password for your server, it's really the mdp for VNC that we don't use.

NB: In case of loss of the mdp, you will have to reinstall your server with a new mdp (free, but loss of time and data)

Launch the Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) application

Enter the IP address (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx), then the ids :

• Administrator (note the capitalization)
• Your password defined when choosing the VPS configuration in section 5. Login & password for your server

NB: In the options of the application window (bottom right), it is possible to save your connection parameters as a shortcut: .rdp file
